Eden Prairie (#1 Ranked Team in MN Coaches Poll) lost to Grand Rapids in their first game 6-5 in extra innings and took out their frustrations on Moorhead Thursday afternoon. Eden Prairie (39-9-1) scored 13 runs in the first inning on their way to a 24-11 victory in 7 innings ending the Blues 2008 season. The Blues finished 23-19-1 on the summer.

The Moorhead Blues struggled out of the gate and could never recover as the Rochester Patriots defeated the Blues 18-3 (7 innings) in the opening round of the Minnesota American Legion State Tournament played at Red Haddox Field in Bloomington.

The Moorhead Blues are on the way back to the Minnesota American Legion State Tournament after a solid performance Tuesday evening against Detroit Lakes. The Blues came out quick with 2 runs in the top of the first and another in the second then rolled on to score a total of 10 runs and defeat Detroit Lakes 10-0 by the ten run rule after 7 innings. Kyle Van Dyke picked up the win on the mound with a complete game shut-out mixing his pitches well and allowing only 4 hits on the day while adding a home run with his bat. More good performances on the offensive side from Braden Rahman, Kevin Hayes and Jordan Doschadis.

Manager Joe Baker is choked up with pride as his Moorhead Blues won the District 9 Championship and gave him a cheer after the game. This was his 12th District Championship as the Blues Manager since 1988.

The Moorhead Blues defeated Fergus Falls 10-5 in the second round of the Minnesota American Legion District 9 playoffs Friday afternoon. Scott Petry lead the way on the mound and Kyle Van Dyke provided 4 RBI's as the Blues pounded out 16 hits. The Blues will play in the Championship game today at 4:30PM in Fergus Falls.

The Blues fell in the last regular season game Monday night at Matson Field to West Fargo leaving the Blues with a final regular season record of 20-17-1. Heading into Section 9 Tournament play the Blues will play the winner of EGF/DL who are playing Wednesday in Fergus Falls. The opening game will be Thursday, July 31st at 12:00 for the #1 South seed Blues.

The time is right for the Moorhead Blues to heat up as they have now won 5 straight games and will play their last regular season double header against TRF Sunday (3PM) at Matson Field which will honor the Seniors between games. Friday the Blues played one nine inning game against Jamestown. Tyler Schlotfeldt hit a 3 run homer in the third inning, Jake Bernhardt and Matt Penner were 2 for 3 from the plate and Casey Smith went 2 for 4 as the Blues won 9-5 for their 20th win on the season.

Moorhead Post 21 jumped out to a quick lead and then held off a late charge by East Grand Forks. Paul Roers pitched 4 scoreless innings for the Blues and Scott Petry came in the get the save as the Blues won 7-6. Petry struck out the last batter as EGF had the tying run on 3rd base and the go ahead run on first. The Blues have now won 5 of their last six and will next take on TRF in a double header Sunday afternoon starting at 3PM at Matson Field.

The Moorhead Blues will honor the Seniors of the program Sunday at the TRF vs. Blues game at Matson Field starting at 3:00PM, this was rescheduled from Wednesday, July 23rd due to the rain.

Moorhead Post 21 fell to Aberdeen, SD in the Detroit Lakes Water Carnival Tournament Sunday for their first loss in the Tourney. The Blues then rebounded defeating host Detroit Lakes and finishing in second place for the event by posting a 4-1 record for the three days. The scheduled game for Monday against Alexanderia has been cancelled and the Blues will next take on East Grand Forks Wednesday at 6:30PM for a single nine inning game honoring this years Seniors.

The Blues were trailing 4-0 going into the 6th inning and staged a spirited comeback scoring 3 runs behind a three run homer from Kyle Van Dyke and 2 more runs in the seventh to get their third victory at the Detroit Lakes Water Carnival Tournament. Tyler Schlotfeldt came through in the clutch getting the game winner in the seventh and improving the Blues season record to 17-15-1. The Blues will play two games to finish the Tournament at 3PM and 5PM Sunday in Detroit Lakes.

The Blues showed some grit Friday after losing a 5-2 lead in the seventh inning to East Grand Forks to trail 6-5 going into their half of the inning. The Blues were able to score twice capped by a game winning rip by pinch hitting Matt Penner.
Post 21 then took on the Westphal Legion comprised of kids from the Armstrong High School area in the Twin Cities. The Blues broke it open late and hung on for a 3-2 victory staving off a seventh inning effort by Westphal.

Fargo made the most of every opportunity Thursday night at Jack Williams Stadium. In the first inning with two outs the Blues made a couple errors and then the flood gates open and the Blues could not get a 3rd out until Fargo had scored 8 runs. The second inning didn't get much better as a combination of fielding challenges and timely Fargo hitting generated 5 more runs. The game did end after 7 innings with the Blues falling 21-0. The Blues look for redemption tomorrow as they start the DL Water Carnival Tournament at 11AM and then a second game at 1:15PM. The Tourney continues Saturday and Sunday in Detroit Lakes.

The Blues spotted DGF a lead early and slowly built a charge tying the game 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh, but extra innings have not been kind to the Blues this year and DGF scored 2 in the top of the eighth and defeated Moorhead 7-5.

In the second game Hawley scored 5 runs in the first inning and marched to a 9-6 victory behind pitching from Joe Fillbrandt. Jordan Descadis homered for the Blues and Paul Roers struck out 10. The Blues fall to 14-14-1 on the season and will take on Fargo tonight at Jack Williams Stadium starting at 7PM.

Tuesday night at Matson Field the Blues put on the camo uniform tops in honor of current and past Military personnel. The Blues traded leads back & forth with Alexandria in the first game ending with a tight finish. Alexandria tied the game 4-4 in the fifth then they scored two runs in the seventh and Moorhead tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with two runs to force extra innings. Alexandria then scored the game winner in the 8th. Kyle Van Dyke homered for the 4th time of the season and the Blues pounded out 12 hits.

The Blues then changed the momentum and were victorious in a 10-0 (5 innings) second game that featured a 3-hit shutout by Sam Grantham (4-2). Sam also went 3-3 from the plate as the Blues had 10 hits as a team and get their 14th win of the season. The Blues will take on DGF in a double header tonight starting at 5pm at Matson Field.

The Blues put a slow start behind them in game one and hit the ball with authority in a 12-2 victory over Perham shortened to 5 innings by the ten run rule. Scott Petry shook off giving up two runs in the first inning and pitched 4 scoreless innings for the win improving to 3-2 on the season. Moorhead dropped the second game 8-5 and has a 13-11-1 season record. The Blues will next take on Alexandria Tuesday, July 15th for double header starting at 5PM featuring Military Appreciation Night at Matson Field.

After trailing 4-2 late in the game against Fargo the Blues rallied to tie the game and were coming to bat in the bottom of the ninth but the weather had other ideas for the outcome of Thursday rivalry game. Due to frequent lightning in the area the umpires called the game and created the second tie game in Moorhead Blues history. The only other game to be tied was in 2003 while Paul Cragg was coaching.
The Blues will take on Perham in a double header tonight starting at 5PM at Matson Field.

The Blues Kevin Hayes made a welcomed addition to the lineup after being out with a injured wrist. Hayes went right to work going 5 for 6 with 3 runs scored as the Blues rallied from a 6-1 deficit Tuesday at Matson Field to beat Fergus Falls 7-6 in 8 innings. The Blues improved to 12-10 on the season and will take on Fargo at Matson Field on Thursday night following the Golds vs. Bombers strting at 4:30PM.

Moorhead's struggles continued as the blues took a 5-2 lead halfway through their game against Fargo Tuesday night at Jack Williams Stadium only to see their lead melt as the blues gave up 5 runs in the 6th inning, 4 runs in the 7th inning and 5 more runs in the 8th inning. The blues fall to 9-9 on the season and will take on Detroit Lakes Thursday night in DL for a double header starting at 5PM.

Post 21 rebounded from two tough loses at the end of the FM Tourney over the weekend to sweep Perham in a double header Monday night in Perham. The Blues improve to 9-8 on the season and will take on Fargo tonight at Jack Williams Stadium at 7PM.

Moorhead lead throughout the game but faded at the end in a 10-7 loss to Sioux Falls East in their final game of the 2008 FM Tourney at Matson Field. The Blues drop to 7-8 on the season and will take on Perham in a twin bill Monday night at 5pm in Perham then will take on archrival Fargo at Jack Williams Stadium Tuesday night at 7pm.
